"In 1988 I was gifted an old paperback book 'Rod Building for Amateurs' by Richard Walker. This was the catalyst which sparked my interest in split cane rods".
HAND BUILT SPLIT CANE FLY FISHING RODS
All my split cane fly rods have nickle silver ferrules, a hook keeper and are whipped in silk thread. Only flor grade cork is used for handles and the rods are varnished in polyurethane varnish which gives a flat, glass-like gloss finish. The rods are completed with hardwood rod stoppers and bag.
Based on Garrison tapers, which have an effortless, progressive, fluid casting action and lovely for small to medium streams. The first fly rod I made was a Garrison taper, well I was hooked straight away. I am sure it gave me an edge fishing with such a delicate beautiful looking fly rod, and wow when that wild brownie takes your fly!
